Freezing temps and icy water can destroy unprepared boat lifts. Here’s a simple checklist for U.S. winter prep:

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Remove the Boat

Never store your boat on the lift through winter—ice shifts can warp both.

2. Inspect the Lift

Check for:

  • Cable tension
  • Rust on moving parts
  • Loose bolts or corroded washers

3. Grease and Cover

Use marine-grade grease on pulleys, gears, and winch systems.
Cover electrical connections with shrink-wrap or zip-tied plastic to prevent water entry.

4. Disconnect Power

Always turn off and unplug electric lifts.

5. Raise the Lift (or Lower Fully)

Depending on the model, raise out of the water or lower it completely to reduce ice pressure.

For floating lifts: Move them to a protected cove or pull out of the water entirely.
